Feeling Like a Human: An Introduction to C. S. Lewis' 'The Abolition of Man'
Lecture by Jemimah Wilson now available on YouTube
Jemimah’s lecture on The Abolition of Man, which she presented on 26 June 2025, is now available to listen to on YouTube. (We had set up a video recording, but alas, it somehow failed. Still, we are very glad that we lost the video rather than the audio…)
We were very encouraged by how the night went. Jemimah spoke for about forty minutes, which was followed by about twenty minutes of Q&A and more discussion after the formalities ended.
Thank you very much to all of you who came and listened to the lecture on the night. Thank you as well to our friends at St Mark’s UNEchurch for making this evening possible by letting us use their chapel.
It was very encouraging to us that some people asked, When will the next one of these lectures be? The answer to this question is coming soon…
Further reading
If you haven’t read The Abolition of Man—or if you haven’t read it in a while—it is available to borrow from Wilson House for free with a free Borrower membership.
If you want to go further, we’d recommend the following as well:
Michael Ward, After Humanity. A very helpful guide if you’ve read The Abolition of Man and want to go deeper. It includes a line-by-line commentary, and some of the historical background.
C. S. Lewis, That Hideous Strength. This is the third instalment in Lewis’ Cosmic Trilogy, and it sets the ideas of Abolition into an epic dystopian narrative featuring a troubled marriage, evil scientists—and Merlin the magician. It is a favourite of ours! (This one is also free for Borrowers.)
David Haines & Andrew Fulford, Natural Law: A Brief Introduction and Biblical Defence. Are there actually universal moral values accessible by all men by nature? Is this consistent with what Scripture teaches? This little book is a helpful primer to this important theological concept.
